More Week 9 College Football Picks: Jordan Gives Us His Picks
Being a blogger I come in contact with a lot of other people who write or do video about college football. A lot of them do editorials or humor pieces which I enjoy a lot (and plan to be having more contributors in these areas as well in the future) but as you guys know I have a soft spot for the guys willing to put it on the line week after week by making their picks and telling them to the world.
I met Jordan a few weeks back and we’ve been talking football picks ever since. Jordan makes youtube videos of his picks under the name prolific picks and has an outstanding record this season. He only releases one set of picks per week so these are what he sees as his best picks. I’m always glad to share the stage with someone with the football knowledge and love for the game that Jordan has.So here is what Jordan had to say.
Week 9 picks by Jordan Corso:
Texas – 13.5
No one on earth is playing as well as Texas right now. Colt McCoy is on fire and completely in sync with his receivers as well as running the ball hard on the ground. Quan Cosby and Jordan Shipley have both been explosive and can score from short slants to 40-yard streaks. Oklahoma St. defensive backs are going to have a long day. Don’t buy into the Missouri win that Oklahoma St. had. Did anyone see what Texas did to Missouri in the first quarter? Texas in my opinion is a 21-point favorite minimum from here till the end of the season and they should cover every game. Did anyone see defensive freak Orakpo benching 515 on espn with headphones on??? Texas is not buying into the number 1 ranking and is very focused on unfinished business. Putting pressure on Daniel worked in the Missouri game but putting pressure on Colt McCoy only leaves more players open and forces him to make another outstanding play. There is nothing anyone in all of college football can do to stop this kid. He is the best player in college football hands down.
Penn St. – 2.5
Penn St. is 0 – 7 at the shoe and last year got beat by 20 points. A lot has changed since then. First off, replace Anthony Morelli’s inconsistency with Darryl Clark’s 63 % completion percentage. He has 3 talented receivers who combined have 80 catches thus far. Then add in Royster averaging 8 yds per carry. This is offense is incredibly balanced and I feel will easily run the table. Michigan gave them everything they could muster last week and once that Penn St. offense got rolling, nothing could stand in its way. On the other hand when I look at Ohio St., they are run heavy run often with Wells and Pryor. Penn St. has a scrappy defense that has 23 sacks and 11 interceptions. They win games in the trenches on both sides of the ball and I don’t feel that Ohio St. can fight them for four quarters. Penn St. is way too good to lose to a one-dimensional team. Terrell Pryor has earned my respect but this team is not good enough to compete with Penn St. this year.
Kansas – 2
Kansas and Todd Reesing remind me a lot of Texas. Briscoe and Mier are playing very intelligent football and when pressure is applied to Reesing he is forced to make a good play. Texas Tech is struggling not only with special teams but also now with injuries. They leading prolific receiver Michael Crabtree is not 100 percent with a hurt ankle. I believe Texas Tech’s uninspired defense takes breaks at times and depends on their offense to outscore their opponent. Last week they played a terrible Texas A&M team way too close and the week before that they needed an overtime period to squeeze past Nebraska. This team is very overrated in the polls and Kansas will prove that this weekend. By the way, Rain is on the forecast in Kansas, which will benefit more in Kansas’ favor because of their terrific running back Jake Sharp and their ability on defense to take the ball away.
Minnesota – pick
Does anyone realize how good Minnesota is playing right now? Does anyone realize how poor Purdue is playing? Head coach Joe Tiller called out Curtis Painter about poor quarterback play and in the same week Kory Sheet’s says to the media that he feels he is being ignored by both Painter and the offensive coordinator and is unhappy. This Purdue team is an absolute mess and what a better time for an extremely underrated Minnesota team to come in firing on all cylinders. QB Adam Weber is completing 68 percent of his passes (better than Darryl Clark) and has thrown only two interceptions all year with a rating of 145.03 on the season. This team is also coming off a road win at Illinois. The best part is that no one is even talking about this team so they still have everything to prove. They have been consistently horrible in the big ten so every team they play is a big game for them and they have absolutely nothing to lose. The next goal on Minnesota’s mind is getting their first win at Purdue in 18 seasons and that will be all that is on their mind this week.
Virginia + 11.5
In the first four games this year Virginia gave up 175 points while scoring an embarrassing 36 points for themselves. However, in their last three games they have given up only 33 points and scored 83 including a shutout versus a very solid Maryland team and a victory in overtime over whom I felt was the best team in the acc this year UNC. Now they have an intriguing match up versus Georgia Tech who has played good football thus far under Paul Johnson’s tenure. I believe that Virginia can go pound for pound with Georgia Tech in the trenches and fight them from start to finish keeping this game very close. This game very well may decide the ACC coastal division and Virginia is not going out without a fight. Look for Georgia Tech to start the game sleepy at home and have their hands full with Cedric Peerman on the ground. In ACC play this year 3 of the 4 games that Georgia Tech has played in have been decided by 4 points or less. Don’t sleep on the Cavs, Georgia Tech is still young and inexperienced which means they can be exploited.
Oregon – 4.5
I go to Arizona St. and am picking Oregon with all the confidence I have inside of me. Arizona St. is the most penalized team in the history of football in clutch situations. 3 – 1 on Cal’s 39, don’t worry Cal, a holding penalty will surely be called. Talk about bailing out the other team convincingly. ASU couldn’t cover a spread this year if their life depended on it. At first I thought that they fell asleep vs. UNLV, now I believe the mountain west is a better conference than the Pac – 10 and they have proved it convincingly. Since I have gone to school here Oregon has killed ASU every year and there is no reason why that should change. Williams always goes off vs. us even though he drops balls vs. everyone else and ASU’s defense cannot contain a quarterback with any bit of mobility. They are the worst I have ever seen running and against the run and their backup quarterback Sullivan might as well get on a greyhound up to Washington St. ASU fans, if you have epilepsy, depression. or any sort of chronic illness, I advise you not to bet on ASU. If you do then you will have one of these three things A. a hole in your wall B. a nasty hangover or C. A seizure. Save yourself the health concerns. With all that said Oregon should have no problem moving the ball on ASU. ASU has no offense or defense and is on their way to a pick me spread with Washington St. Don’t worry about a home field advantage either, every season ticket holder has their tickets on craigslist giving them away to Ducks Fans. Put a pitchfork in them, they’re done! Easiest pick of the week.
Oklahoma – 21
Also a very easy pick. A sign of a bad team is a roster full of junior college recruits. Kansas St. plays poor defense and cannot out score even a mediocre opponent. The only way to cover a spread vs. Oklahoma is to have playmakers all over the field like Kansas or Texas has. Kansas St. does not offer this. Oklahoma hangs at least 6 touchdowns a game when they win and they are surely going to win this game. Kansas St. will struggle to move the ball; they will give up on the run early, and continue to punt the ball to arguably the most dangerous offense in football. Sam Bradford refuses to go three and out and all his playmakers care too much about their stats to drop any balls or make mistakes. Oklahoma can score from anywhere and should blowout Kansas St. convincingly. Before the Texas game Oklahoma was easily perfect against the spread. I look for Oklahoma to get back on that route with their two toughest games behind them. I don’t want to hear about having Texas Tech and Oklahoma St. left either. Those teams are overrated and Kansas will prove that this weekend.
Arizona + 17.5
I have made the drive down to Tucson numerous times and they have a lot of sleepy fans waiting for something to be proud of. Last year when number one Oregon went into Tucson at night it basically ended their season. Arizona has played very well at home this year and the only trouble they have had is on the road. At home they have not beaten a Pac – 10 team by less than 15 points and that was Cal. They are having no problem scoring and Willy Tuitama has finally been playing up to his potential. USC seems out of sync at times on the road and Mark Sanchez has struggled when faced with adversity this year. No question can USC pound the ball on the ground and play defense. I just feel that Arizona is too athletic playing at home to get 17.5 points. This is a very good bet.

If anyone has any questions, feel free to ask!
Hi Jordan,
Any thoughts on tonight’s San Jose State-Boise match up?
Also, it seems like you stick to the big conferences, is that your specialty or just the games you like best this week? I know a lot of the readers here care about those games a lot.
You know me, I’m more the Northern Illinois-BGSU game and the Troy-North Texas game type, I usually just seem to find some value under the radar
Mitch
Nice picks Jordan, just FYI
Sunny and 60 in Lawrence tomorrow for the Kansas vs Tech game.
I agree with almost all of your picks except USC.
They are too focused on getting back into the Championship game hunt again, and i think they will blow Arizona out of the water. But you could be right if USC lacks their focus like they historically do at times.
BKMHOXX-
Arizona has not been challenged at home this year and their offense has been explosive vs. pac - 10 teams there. It is something you have to respect when two teams in the same conference get together. Similar situation tonight. San Jose St. is going to play Boise very tough at home and if I remember correctly the last time Boise went to the bay they needed an overtime period to pull off a win. That same year they went on to the fiesta bowl. San Jose St. is second in the WAC in points allowed. I think this game will be a defensive battle and 8 and a half is plenty.
Mitch - growing up on the west coast I have always been against the east coast bias. I have grown up with the PAC - 10 and feel very confident of my knowledge of the players and teams having grown up around a lot of them and knowing some of them personally. I believed Texas to be the best team in the big 12 preseason. I always believed that it would take Colt at least two years to get to this point. Colt McCoy showed a lot of promise his first two years at Texas but always played inconsistent. With the momentum of the Holiday Bowl win carrying into the off season I believe this is Colt’s year to play mistake free football. Texas may be the most powerful recruiting program in all the land. In my eyes the Big 12 is the most predictable conference this year.
6 out of 8. Easy money!
Nice picking. I’m not sure there’s ever such a thing as easy money but I guess if someone just read your picks and played those games it doesn’t get much easier than that..lol. Congrats on not just this week but the roll you are on this season.
You know I hit on a bunch of mine and a few went against me but you had a lot of games I didn’t pick so they actually made a huge difference especially with the West Coast games of Oregon (which we agreed on) and Arizona which I jumped on board Saturday morning.
I look forward to hearing more from you as I think the readers will as well.
Keep it coming
Hey you did a great job jordan. I need 3 strong picks for next Saturday. Which teams do you like the most?
Jordan will be back later in the week, lets give him a few days to get his picks together, I think he usually has them by Wednesday or Thursday. We don’t want to interrupt anything he’s currently doing because it’s working :)
I am currently in the number crunching process. I will let everyone know what my picks are by late wednesday. Just a little advice to the Georgia Bulldogs. “I have been impressed with your resurgence after the let down loss vs Alabama, but you better be ready on saturday, In Florida’s last two games they have outscored two decent SEC opponents 113 to 26. I would not be surprised at all if Florida is holding a glass football at the end of the year”.
